Placemaking reconnects churches with their local communities and creates sustainable economic opportunities for everyone.
Historically, churches have been an important hub for community, but that role has been shrinking in recent times. With over 100,000 churches across America expected to close their doors in the next 10 years, the time for churches to restore their place for local communities to meet, work together, and create a stronger community may disappear forever for millions of Americans.

Adaptive reuse projects connected to our work have helped unlock millions of dollars in economic impact through job creation, supporting small businesses, and leveraging assets for local church revenue. The projects have also cultivated social impact through providing space for community lead organizations, neighborhood support during natural disasters, and innovative community development.

The three phases of projects
from curiosity to community impact
Our Placemaking Incubator starts with a twelve‑month structured process that aligns the organization with the needs of the community and validates that the vision is feasible. This process culminates with a clear vision, business plan, pitch deck, professional storytelling assets, and SMART goals. We then move into the Activation phase where New Chapter serves as your Community Development Partner.
New Chapter provides expert guidance for placemaking projects at churches
